California freshman Allen Crabbe scored four of his career-high 30 points in overtime to lead the Golden Bears to an 88-81 victory over Washington State on Thursday night at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, California.
Cal (9-7, 2-2 Pac-10) jumped out to a 10-point lead at halftime behind Crabbe’s hot shooting. He had already matched his previous career-high of 17 points by halftime, hitting he 4 of 5 from 3-point range and keying an 18-6 run in the first half. Crabbe finished the game 10 of 15 from the field, and Mark Sanders-Frison scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Golden Bears, who won their second straight Pac-10 contest.
Washington State (12-5, 2-3) clawed back into the game behind Klay Thompson, the Pac-10’s leading scorer. Thompson made 12 of 22 from the field and finished with a season-high 36 points.
Washington State closed the 10-point halftime deficit and trailed 74-71 when Thompson hit his fifth 3-pointer of the game with 15 seconds left to send the game to overtime. Cal started the overtime with an 8-2 run to earn the win.
Washington State’s DeAngelo Casto recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars, who were out-rebounded by 10 in the game.
