John Shurna and Drew Crawford each scored 17 points as Northwestern rolled to a 71-45 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday night in Evanston, Ill. It was the home opener for the Wildcats (3-0), who opened the season with wins at Northern Illinois and Texas-Pan American.
Shurna scored all 17 of his points in the first half as Northwestern rolled to a 44-25 lead by shooting 52 percent from the field. The sharp-shooting Shurna hit 6-7 in the opening 20 minutes, including 4-5 from three-point range.
Michael Thompson added 11 points for Northwestern, which finished the game with 10 three-pointers, while holding Arkansas-Pine Bluff to just 32.7 percent shooting from the field and 16 total field goals.
Daniel Broughton and Dominic Moore paced UAPB (0-3) with 12 points apiece. The Golden Lions start the season playing their first 12 games on the road.
