Tanner Smith led Clemson with 17 points, as the Tigers pushed past Long Beach State 69-55 in the first round of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, Friday in St. Thomas.
Clemson's backcourt of Smith and Andre Young combined for 29 points and helped force 21 Long Beach State turnovers.
The Tigers (3-0) advance to Sunday's second round and will face the winner of St. Peter's and Old Dominion.
Long Beach State (1-2) trailed by 13 at half and never seriously challenged Clemson in the second half. Larry Anderson led the 49ers with 10 points. He was the only player to reach double digits for Long Beach State.
Clemson shot 50 percent from the field, including a sizzling 10-of-17 performance from 3-point range. All four of Young's field goals came from 3-point land. Smith also led the Tigers with six rebounds.
