DeAngelo Casto and Faisal Aden each scored 18 points to power Washington State to a season-opening 86-47 rout of visiting Southern University on Saturday night.
Junior guard Klay Thompson scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half to spark the Cougars (1-0) to a 41-18 cushion at halftime.
Thompson connected on 6-for-9 from the floor to help Washington State shoot 58 percent (32-for-55) for the game.
Casto and Aden did the heavy lifting in the second half, combining for 23 points between them as the Cougars pushed the lead over 40 points.
Brock Motum added 12 points for Washington State, which lost nine of its last 11 games last season.
Quinton Doggett was the only player in double figures for Southern (0-2), scoring a game-high 19 points.
Southern, which lost to No. 12 Gonzaga 117-72 on Friday night in its season opener, heaved up 24 3-point attempts, connecting on just five.
