Rangers 5, Astros 1: Lisalverto Bonilla struck out seven in six scoreless innings and Rougned Odor and Ryan Rua each homered as Texas defeated visiting Houston.
Elvis Andrus also had an RBI as the Rangers won their fourth straight game and 11th of their last 12. Bonilla (3-0) allowed four hits and two walks while winning his third consecutive start.
Astros starter Scott Feldman (8-12) allowed one run and four hits in six innings. Jonathan Villar homered in the eighth for Houston’s lone run.
Texas struck in the fifth as Leonys Martin reached on a one-out bunt single and Andrus following with a double into the left-field corner. Odor made it 2-0 in the seventh when he launched a one-out blast off Houston reliever Jose Veras and Rua smacked a three-run shot off Veras later in the frame to make it a five-run margin.
Astros second baseman Jose Altuve went 1-for-3 with a walk and two steals and his batting average remained at .343. His major league-leading average is nine points better than Detroit’s Victor Martinez.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Astros interim manager Tom Lawless will interview for the permanent manager job Saturday, according to published reports. … Rua is 14-for-35 over his last nine games. … Altuve’s steal count is up to 56 as he attempts to become the fifth player in Houston history to reach 60.
