Moses Wright totaled 26 points and 10 rebounds as Georgia Tech pulled away in the second half for a 69-53 victory over No. 16 Virginia Tech on Tuesday night at Blacksburg, Va.
The Yellow Jackets (12-8, 8-6 ACC) won their third straight game and dominated the second half by outscoring the Hokies 45-29.
Wright posted his eighth 20-point game of the season and fifth double-double. He scored 17 of his points after halftime, made 9 of 11 shots from the field and hit 7 of 11 free throws as Georgia Tech posted its fourth victory over a ranked team.
Jose Alvarado added 13 points and five of Georgia Tech's nine steals as the Yellow Jackets shot 61.5 percent in the second half and 52.0 percent overall. Michael Devoe chipped in 12 points and four assists.
The Hokies (14-5, 8-4) played their first game in over two weeks due to a COVID-19 pause that led to several postponed games. They produced their lowest point total this season.
Keve Aluma and Nahiem Alleyne led the Hokies with 12 points apiece, but the duo combined to shoot 8-of-27 from the field. Tyrece Radford added 11 points for Virginia Tech, which shot 41.3 percent and committed 16 turnovers.
A competitive first half saw neither team lead by more than six and ended in a 24-24 tie after Devoe hit a free throw with 20 seconds remaining. Wright scored seven points in the first 5:36 of the second half, his second straight dunk giving Georgia Tech a 10-point lead. The Yellow Jackets opened a 41-28 lead on an Alvarado 3-pointer with 13:31 left.
Virginia Tech was within 54-46 on a jumper by Radford with 5:08 remaining, but the Yellow Jackets clinched the win with a 12-4 run and took a 66-50 lead on a 3-pointer by Bubba Parham with 2:56 remaining.
