Landers Nolley II and Tyrece Radford each poured in 21 points as freshmen propelled Virginia Tech in an 80-70 road victory against Wake Forest on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Freshman Jalen Cone added 15 points as Virginia Tech won its third game in a row. Nahiem Alleyne, another freshman, chipped in 10 points.
The Hokies (13-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) broke away on the strength of a 15-6 stretch midway through the second half. Nolley's 3-pointer with 6:32 remaining boosted the gap to 66-46.
Olivier Sarr's 18 points led Wake Forest, and teammate Brandon Childress scored all 16 of his points in the second half. Andrien White, who hadn't scored in double figures in any of the past four games, notched 14 points.
Wake Forest (8-8, 1-5) has lost three games in a row since a three-game winning streak. The previous two losses came to Top 10 teams Florida State and Duke.
Childress and White combined to shoot 10-for-19 from the field. Wake Forest's other starters were a combined 2-for-11.
The Hokies won the fourth meeting in a row in the series in the only scheduled matchup of the season. They shot 49.1 percent from the field, making nine 3-point baskets.
Cone drained four treys in a reserve role.
Wake Forest went more than seven minutes in the first half without scoring as the Hokies broke a 10-10 deadlock to build a 20-10 lead.
Wake Forest had a 14-2 run to go ahead before Virginia Tech went to the break holding a 33-31 edge. Wake Forest had 10 first-half turnovers and 18 giveaways for the game.
Childress, the team's scoring leader, was scoreless in Saturday night's 90-59 loss at then-No. 2 Duke.
Wake Forest was without junior guard Chaundee Brown, the team's second-leading scorer, for the third game in a row because of a lower-leg injury.
