Kentucky 75, LSU 70: Freshman Alex Poythress recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Wildcats withstood a determined second-half comeback by the visiting Tigers.

Archie Goodwin chipped in 15 points and Ryan Harrow had 11 for Kentucky (13-6, 4-2 SEC), which led by 11 with seven minutes left before LSU cut the lead to 70-68 on Anthony Hickey’s 3-pointer with 1:04 remaining.

LSU trailed by three with two seconds left, but Kentucky was able to seal the win with two free throws after Hickey’s missed free throw. Johnny O'Bryant III tied a career high with 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Tigers (10-7, 1-5).

Nerlens Noel, the reigning SEC freshman of the week, had 10 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots for Kentucky, which allowed LSU to rally by committing 11 of its 16 turnovers in the second half.

LSU, which came back from a 14-point deficit to beat Texas A&M on Wednesday, failed to record its second straight victory despite Hickey’s 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Andre Stringer made three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kentucky improved to 41-5 against the Tigers in Lexington. … Hickey, the 2011 Kentucky Mr. Basketball, entered the game leading the nation in steals at 3.9 per game. He had three against the Wildcats after recording eight against Texas A&M . …Noel is one blocked shot shy of moving into second place on Kentucky’s single-season list. He has 82 through 19 games.
