Georgetown 63, No. 23 Notre Dame 47: Otto Porter Jr. had 19 points and nine rebounds to power the visiting Hoyas to a key conference victory over the struggling Fighting Irish.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera poured in 14 points and was the only other player in double figures for Georgetown (13-4, 3-3 Big East), which held Notre Dame to a season-low 34.7 percent from the field.
Jerian Grant paced the Irish (15-4, 3-3) with 13 points while Jack Cooley secured his 12th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
After missing their first two field goal attempts, the Hoyas connected on eight straight shots to build a 21-8 advantage with 10:21 left in the first half. A 3-pointer by Pat Connaughton helped the Irish close to within four points, but Georgetown used a 9-0 run over the last 5:01 of the half to enter the break with a 34-21 lead.
Another 3-pointer by Connaughton sparked a rally as Notre Dame trailed 40-37 with 12:03 remaining, but Smith-Rivera and Porter combined to score the first 14 of 18 unanswered points for the Hoyas.
GAME NOTEBOOK: After going 111-7 over its previous 118 home games, Notre Dame has dropped two of its last three at the Joyce Center. … Georgetown shot 53.3 percent from the field and collected assists on 19 of its 24 baskets. … The Irish, who committed only five turnovers, fell to 1-4 this season when they shoot less than 48 percent from the field.
