There was no looking ahead for No. 5 Pittsburgh. With Monday's tilt against undefeated Syracuse looming, the host Panthers frustrated Seton Hall, and senior Gary McGhee tied a career high with 13 points in Pitt's 74-53 triumph Saturday.
Pitt (17-1, 5-0 Big East) led by as many as 25 and limited Pirates star Jeremy Hazell to just nine points on 3-of-13 shooting.
McGhee, who had nine rebounds, netted 10 of his points in an ugly first half. The Panthers held Seton Hall (8-10, 2-4) to 5-for-20 shooting over the first 15 minutes en route to a 33-18 halftime advantage.
No other starter scored in double figures for the Panthers, but nine players contributed at least five points. Talib Zanna had 10 off the bench and Brad Wanamaker added nine.
Hazell, a preseason All-Big East selection, broke his wrist against Alabama on Nov. 19 and then suffered a gunshot wound in the right armpit on Christmas. He returned Wednesday and scored 23 in a 78-67 win at DePaul.
Herb Pope's 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists led the Pirates.
