Mavericks 93, Heat 72: Charlie Villanueva scored 14 of his season-high 20 points in the second half and ignited the decisive run as visiting Dallas rallied from a 16-point deficit to end a four-game losing skid.
Villanueva knocked down six 3-pointers while Monta Ellis and Dirk Nowitzki added 12 points apiece for the Mavericks, who avoided their first five-game losing streak since 2008. Tyson Chandler had 11 points and 13 rebounds as Dallas won despite playing without Chandler Parsons (sick).
Hassan Whiteside scored 16 points and set career highs with 10 offensive rebounds and 24 total rebounds in just 29 minutes for the Heat, who played without stars Dwyane Wade (hamstring) and Luol Deng (calf). Whiteside tied for the second-most rebounds in Miami history and James Ennis added 15 points, but Miami had its seven-game regular-season winning streak against Dallas snapped.
Villanueva sparked a 23-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters with a pair of 3-pointers and a dunk while Whiteside sat on the bench for all but two of those points, and the Mavericks turned a nine-point deficit into a 74-60 lead with 7:22 left. Miami went 9:21 without a field goal during the decisive spurt, missing 12 consecutive shots.
Miami led by just two after holding Dallas to 3-of-17 shooting in the first quarter, but consecutive 3-pointers by Shawne Williams and Ennis pushed the lead to 10 eight minutes into the second and the Heat led 45-33 at the half. Miami pushed the lead to 16 early in the third and led 60-51 with 3:12 left in the period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Whiteside had more rebounds in the first quarter (14) than Dallas had points (13) and tied his career high of 16 rebounds in the first half. … Dallas coach Rick Carlisle won his 600th career game in the NBA. … The Mavericks outscored the Heat 33-12 in the fourth quarter and won the battle of the boards 19-7.
