Josh Bell smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning to complete a comeback from a three-run deficit as the Washington Nationals defeated the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 on Saturday night.
Victor Robles also homered for the Nationals and Nelson Cruz drove in two runs as the Nationals moved to 4-4 since the All-Star break by snapping a two-game skid.
Nolan Arenado and Paul DeJong hit home runs for St. Louis, but the Cardinals were denied notching just their second three-game winning streak since mid-June.
Bell's 14th homer of the season came off Genesis Cabrera (3-2).
Erasmo Ramirez (3-1) was the winning pitcher with one inning of shutout relief. Kyle Finnegan recorded his fourth save.
The Cardinals loaded the bases with one out in the eighth against reliever Carl Edwards Jr. Finnegan was summoned from the bullpen and limited the damage to DeJong's sacrifice fly for the game's final run.
Arenado's 19th home run opened the scoring in the second inning. It was his first home run in seven games.
Robles matched it with a solo shot in the third, his third homer in a nine-game span. It was his fourth long ball of the season.
DeJong's second home run of the season put the Cardinals ahead in the fifth and they added to the lead on pinch hitter Corey Dickerson's sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
The Nationals responded in the bottom of the inning, using Cruz's two-run double and Yadiel Hernandez's RBI single to tie the score, 4-4.
The Cardinals went ahead, 5-4, on Lars Nootbaar's sixth-inning sacrifice fly.
Nationals starter Paolo Espino worked 4 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with a walk. Still, he has lasted four or more innings for the seventh time in his last eight outings.
Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson gave up two runs on four hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
No player in Washington's lineup had more than one hit.
