Astros 4, Tigers 3 (11): Jason Castro slammed a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as host Houston snapped Detroit's seven-game winning streak.
Castro lined a 2-1 fastball off Blaine Hardy (0-1) with one out in the 11th to lift the Astros to their second straight win and give Jake Buchanan (1-0) his first major-league victory in his second career appearance. Jose Altuve collected four hits, drove in a run and stole home as Houston improved to 3-9 versus the Tigers since joining the American League.
Nick Castellanos swatted a solo homer and red-hot Ian Kinsler collected three hits for the Tigers, who fell to 6-1 on their nine-game road trip. J.D. Martinez added a pair of hits and Alex Avila delivered an RBI single for Detroit, which had its lead cut to 3 1/2 games over Kansas City atop the American League Central.
Altuve set the tone in the first with a leadoff single before stealing second, moving to third on a wild pitch by Justin Verlander and scoring on catcher Avila's throwing error. Avila atoned for the miscue with his run-scoring single in the second before Castellanos pounded a high fastball from Brad Peacock over the scoreboard in left in the fourth to put Detroit ahead 2-1.
Altuve reclaimed the lead in the fifth for the Astros by doubling home L.J. Hoes and advancing to third on George Springer's infield single before alertly dashing home when Avila attempted to pick off Springer at first. The Tigers tied it in the eighth when Eugenio Suarez walked after first baseman Jon Singleton allowed his foul pop to drop and later scored on shortstop Jonathan Villar's two-out throwing error.
