Brewers 9, Mets 6: Pinch hitter Logan Schafer delivered a two-run triple and Rickie Weeks added a two-run homer during a five-run fourth inning as Milwaukee posted its 10th win in 11 home games.
Ryan Braun had two hits and an RBI while pinch hitter Travis Ishikawa drove in a run with a triple for the Brewers, who climbed within 2 1/2 games of both Los Angeles and St. Louis for the second wild-card spot in the National League. The Cardinals dropped a 4-3 decision to the Dodgers on Saturday.
Milwaukee fell behind 4-1 as New York staged a three-run rally in the fourth. But Schafer plated two runs in the bottom half with his first career extra-base hit and scored on a wild pitch before Weeks, who added an RBI double in the seventh, belted his 20th homer for a 6-4 lead.
Brandon Kintzler (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Shaun Marcum, who yielded four runs and seven hits in four innings. New York's Jenrry Mejia (0-1) was tagged for five runs on six hits and five walks over three-plus frames in his first major-league start in exactly two years.
Ike Davis went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and Daniel Murphy collected three hits and an RBI for the Mets, who have lost seven of eight.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Weeks has reached the 20-homer plateau each of the last three seasons after hitting only nine in 2009. ... Mejia's best moment came in the fourth, when he perfectly executed a suicide squeeze to plate Jordany Valdespin for a 2-1 lead. ... Milwaukee 1B Corey Hart will be kept out of the starting lineup until at least Tuesday due to a left foot injury, but he may be available for pinch-hitting duty Sunday. Hart has not played since last Sunday.
