VIRGINIA TECH 66, BOSTON COLLEGE 65: Freshman Dorian Finney-Smith scored on an offensive rebound with 2.4 seconds left to give the Hokies a dramatic come-from behind win over the Eagles.
Finney-Smith, who had 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench, rebounded Robert Brown’s missed three-pointer and powered it into the basket. Boston College’s Lonnie Jackson missed a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer that would have won the game.
Virginia Tech (14-11, 3-7 ACC) also got 11 points from Dorenzo Hudson, and 10 points each from Victor Davila and Erick Green. Boston College (8-17, 3-8 ACC) got 17 points and seven rebounds from Ryan Anderson, 14 points from Lonnie Jackson and 13 from Matt Humphrey.
Boston College led by six points with 1:39 remaining after Dennis Clifford scored on an inside move to make it 65-59. Baskets by Green and Finney-Smith cut the margin to one point and the Hokies got their chance to win after the Eagle’s Jordan Daniels missed the front end of a one-and-one with 26.2 seconds left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia Tech’s C.J. Barksdale came down awkwardly while fighting for a rebound and rolled his left ankle. He left with 17:43 in the game and did not return. He scored three points in 12 minutes. Boston College shot 55.8 percent from the field, but was badly beaten on the boards. Virginia Tech had 18 offensive rebounds.
