Seton Hall’s balanced scoring attack found itself upset by a one-man wrecking crew in a semifinal game of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.
Tu Holloway’s 3-point bomb with 17 seconds remaining was the difference as Xavier improved its record to 4-0 with a 57-52 victory over Seton Hall. The Musketeers will face Old Dominion in the championship finals Monday night, while Seton Hall and Clemson will meet in the consolation round.
Xavier led 28-18 at halftime and kept its advantage until less than a minute to go, when Seton Hall’s Jamal Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 50 seconds to go that tied the score at 52-52. Holloway’s three and two free throws by Kenny Frease provided the final margin as Xavier went on a 5-0 run to close the game.
Holloway finished with a game-high 31 points for Xavier on 9-for-16 shooting from the floor and 10-for-13 from the free-throw line.
Seton Hall (2-2) had four players in double-figure scoring, led by 15 points from Jeff Robinson. Jordan Theodore and Fuquan Edwin had 11 points apiece and Herb Pope missed a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
