Preston Knowles collected 14 points and eight rebounds as No. 16 Louisville topped host Rutgers, 55-37, on Tuesday.
Kyle Kuric added 11 points and seven boards for the Cardinals (21-7, 10-5 Big East), who moved into a tie for third place in the Big East. The top four finishers in the regular season receive a double-bye in the conference tournament.
Louisville gets its shot at first-place Pittsburgh at home on Sunday.
The Cardinals took control right from the start, ripping off the first seven points of the game and never trailing. They stretched the lead to 20-3 when Mike Marra knocked down a 3-pointer midway through the first half.
Marra and Knowles combined for six of Louisville’s seven 3-pointers in the first half, as the Cardinals cruised into the break with a 33-19 edge. The Scarlet Knights briefly cut it to single digits midway through the second half, but the Cardinals used an 11-2 burst to put it away.
Gilvydas Biruta was the only player to reach double figures with 12 points for Rutgers (13-14, 4-11), which shot 29 percent and committed 18 turnovers.
