San Diego State pressed the easy button Friday.
The seventh-ranked Aztecs easily beat Division III Occidental 93-50 at the Aztec Bowl in San Diego. They improved to 15-0 - the best start in school history.
The 15-game winning streak is the longest in school history and the second-longest active in the nation behind Duke (22). The Aztecs begin their conference schedule against Texas Christian on Jan. 5.
San Diego State is 25-8 all-time against Occidental (5-4) and has won the last 10 games. Friday was the first time the teams have played since 1953.
Four scorers scored in double figures for the Aztecs. Guards Chase Tapley and James Rahon each had a team-high 15 points while forwards Malcolm Thomas and Kawhi Leonard had 14 apiece. The latter finished with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Forward Deshun McCoy had a game-high 18 points for the Tigers, who shot 22 of 53 (41.5 percent) from the floor. The bench, however, provided just 10 points and two starters combined for four points.
