On a night where its normally sure-fire offense struggled, No. 2 Ohio State found a way to remain perfect on the season.
The Buckeyes survived Florida State’s determined defensive effort, grinding out just enough offense for a 58-44 victory in Tallahassee in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Ohio State (6-0) came into the game sixth in the nation in field-goal percentage at 52.2 percent. But the Seminoles held the Buckeyes to 32.2 percent shooting and blocked 10 Ohio State shots.
Still, the Buckeyes had enough offense. Ohio State scored the game’s first seven points and led 28-17 at halftime. A 12-8 run to open the second half pushed the lead to 40-23 on William Buford’s basket with 15:47 to play.
Florida State (5-2) got within seven points at 49-42 on Deividas Dulkys’ 3-pointer with 4:28 to go. But the Buckeyes scored the next six points to finish off the Seminoles.
Jon Diebler led the Buckeyes with 12 points. Jared Sullinger added 11 and David Lightly scored 10.
Ian Miller scored 11 points off the bench to lead the Seminoles, who have lost two in a row after opening the season with five consecutive victories.
Ohio State plays host to IUPUI on Dec. 9. Florida State plays host to Hartford on Sunday.
