Kemba Walker took over in the second half, leading UConn to a come-from-behind 83-79 victory over Wichita State, Monday in the opener of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
Walker, who had 42 his last time out, finished with 31 points, 29 coming in a second half that saw the Huskies overcome a seven-point deficit in the last 7:28.
Walker scored 13 of the Huskies' final 14 points to stun a quality Wichita State team.
The Shockers (1-1) return four starters from last season's 25-10 squad and are the favorites in the Missouri Valley Conference. They led for the majority of the second half, but had no answer for Walker down the stretch.
Graham Hatch's 3-point play put Wichita State up one with two minutes remaining, but Walker made consecutive jumpers and Alex Oriakhi hit a clinching free throw with 20 seconds left for the Huskies (3-0).
With the win, UConn sets up a potential showdown with No. 2 Michigan State on Tuesday. The Spartans play host Chaminade in the opening round.
Toure' Murry led the Shockers with 19 points.
