Fernando Tatis Jr. bounced a tie-breaking double over third in the bottom of the seventh Sunday afternoon as San Diego defeated the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in the rubber match of a three-game series.

The Diamondbacks had scored three runs in the top of the seventh with the aid of a Tatis throwing error to take a 4-2 lead.

But Jurickson Profar opened the bottom of the inning with a pinch-hit single against Arizona reliever Matt Peacock. Tommy Pham, who had opened the game with a home run off Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen, singled, putting Padres at first and third.

Trent Grisham followed with a double to left center, scoring Profar. Pham scored on a single to right by Jake Cronenworth. And Tatis doubled home Grisham to give the Padres the lead. Peacock then struck out the next three Padres.

Peacock (2-6) gave up three runs on five hits in two innings to take the loss.

The Diamondbacks had scored three runs in the top of the seventh off reliever Tim Hill with Tatis' 17th error of the season playing a key role.

Daulton Varsho and Nick Ahmed opened the inning with back-to-back singles and Josh Rojas drew a walk to load the bases with no one out. Eduardo Escobar hit a grounder to Tatis, who threw wide of Cronenworth at second on a double play attempt. Varsho scored on the grounder and Ahmed scored on the error. Rojas scored on a sacrifice fly by Asdrubal Cabrera.

The Padres scored two in the first before Gallen retired a hitter. After Pham's homer, Grisham hit the first of his three doubles and scored on a Cronenworth single.

Padres starter Yu Darvish allowed one run on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over six innings. Gallen gave up two runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Hill (5-3) was credited with the win despite giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in one inning. Mark Melancon earned his 24th save with a perfect ninth as the Padres closed a 9-1 homestand.
