Trevor Rogers, the reigning National League Rookie of the Month, pitched six effective innings to lead the Miami Marlins to a 5-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night in Phoenix.

The teams split the four-game series, with Miami taking the last two contests.

Rogers (5-2) allowed four hits, two walks and one run in six innings while striking out seven. A native of neighboring state New Mexico, the 23-year-old left-hander had several family members in the stands.

In addition to dropping the game, Arizona lost first baseman Asdrubal Cabrera to a strained right hamstring. Cabrera, who went 2-for-3 and raised his batting average to .289, singled in the sixth, but he then got hurt while stealing second.

Jesus Aguilar led Miami's offense, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Miguel Rojas, Adam Duvall and Corey Dickerson each had two hits and one RBI.

Miami closed out the win with three scoreless innings of relief from Dylan Floro, Anthony Bender and Anthony Bass. Bender was especially impressive, striking out three in the eighth.

Merrill Kelly (2-4) took the loss, allowing seven hits, two walks and three runs in 6 1/3 innings. He fanned four.

Diamondbacks reliever Chris Devenski allowed four consecutive hits during Miami's three-run seventh inning.

Miami shined on defense in the first inning as third baseman Brian Anderson and shortstop Rojas made diving catches to take hits away from Pavin Smith and Eduardo Escobar, respectively.

The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the third as Magneuris Sierra doubled and scored when Rojas bounced a single to center.

Arizona tied the game in the fifth. Tim Locastro hit a leadoff ground-rule double, advanced to third on Kelly's sacrifice bunt and scored on Smith's sacrifice fly.

Miami took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on singles by Dickerson, Duvall and Anderson, who got a two-out RBI by going the opposite way.

The Marlins broke the game open in the seventh. Garrett Cooper walked, Rojas doubled, and Aguilar, Dickerson and Duvall followed with run-scoring singles to give Miami a 5-1 lead.
