Rangers 12, Tigers 2: Rougned Odor went 4-for-5 with a career-best five RBIs as visiting Texas rolled past Detroit.
Donnie Murphy homered, scored three runs and drove in two and Adrian Beltre also went deep for the Rangers, who have won two of the first three meetings of a series that concludes Sunday. Alex Rios went 3-for-5 and Leonys Martin scored three times as Texas handed Detroit its fifth loss in six games.
The Rangers’ 19-hit assault ended the six-start winning streak of Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello (7-2), who was shellacked for eight runs and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Texas rookie Nick Martinez (1-1) gave up one run and eight hits in six innings to record his first major-league victory.
Detroit struck on a run-scoring double by Rajai Davis in the second inning before Texas scored four times in the fourth on Chris Gimenez’s double, Martin’s single and Odor’s two-run triple to right. Beltre smacked a two-out blast in the fifth and Murphy hit an opposite-field two-run shot to right in the sixth to make it 7-1.
Mitch Moreland slugged a run-scoring double to left-center field later in the sixth to make it a seven-run margin. Odor came up with the bases loaded in the seventh and hit a triple off the right-center field wall to clear the bases.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Detroit had 13 hits, including three each by 2B Ian Kinsler and DH Victor Martinez. … Texas LF Shin-Soo Choo (ankle) exited in the sixth inning and OF Daniel Robertson (broken orbital bone) missed his second straight game. … Tigers RHP Corey Knebel allowed three runs, three hits and two walks in one inning in his major-league debut, while INF Danny Worth made his second appearance in three days, giving up three straight hits with two outs in the ninth to allow his first run.
