Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a career-best four hits, including a three-run home run and a double, and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting Miami Marlins 5-1 Tuesday night at Buffalo.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added three hits for Toronto, including a solo home run.
The opener of the two-game set with the Marlins was the Blue Jays' first game this season at Sahlen Field. They played their first 21 home games in Dunedin, Fla., as pandemic restrictions prevented them from playing in Toronto. The Jays called Sahlen Field home in 2020 as well.
Starling Marte had two hits and one RBI for the Marlins, who have lost four in a row and five of their past six.
The Marlins loaded the bases with two outs against Jordan Romano in the ninth before pinch-hitter Jose Devers struck out.
Blue Jays left-hander Robbie Ray (3-2) allowed one run, six hits and two walks while striking out nine in six innings.
Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (2-5) also went six innings, allowing four runs and nine hits. He struck out four.
The Blue Jays scored three runs in the third. Marcus Semien had a one-out infield single and took second on Bo Bichette's single to left. Guerrero hit the first pitch he saw for his 17th homer of the season. He has hit 12 home runs at home -- the first 11 in Dunedin.
The Marlins scored once in the fifth. Luis Marte, playing in his first major league game, walked with one out. He scored when Starling Marte doubled with two out on a fly ball to left, misplayed by Gurriel Jr.
The Blue Jays answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Semien led off with a single, took second on a groundout to first, moved to third on Guerrero's single and scored on a groundout to third by Teoscar Hernandez.
Left-hander Tim Mayza replaced Ray and pitched a perfect seventh, and Rafael Dolis struck out the side in the top of the eighth inning.
Zach Pop allowed Gurriel's fifth homer of the season, a towering drive to left-center with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.
