Giancarlo Stanton homered, drove in three runs and reached five times as the visiting New York Yankees hit six homers and recorded a 14-7 victory over the Texas Rangers Friday night.

Despite Stanton's big night, the Yankees were faced with another injury when left-hander James Paxton exited for precautionary reasons after the first inning due to tightness in his left glute.

The Yankees (103-57) were unsuccessful in their bid to land home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs, as the Houston Astros (105-55) sealed that distinction with a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels later Friday night. The Astros hold the tiebreaker, having gone 4-3 against the Yankees this year.

New York rebounded from scoring once in two losses at Tampa Bay by hitting six homers for the fourth time this season, raising its season total to 305, passing the Minnesota Twins, who have 303.

New York's Cameron Maybin, Brett Gardner, Gio Urshela and Austin Romine hit solo homers while Mike Ford hit a two-run shot.

Maybin homered in the second and Gardner homered to lead off the fourth and knocked out Texas rookie starter Joe Palumbo (0-3). Urshela led off the sixth with his 21st homer after halting an 0-for-19 drought in his previous at-bat.

Stanton homered two batters in, hitting a 440-foot blast well over the left-center field fence on a 2-1 curveball. After Maybin and Gardner homered to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead, Stanton roped a single up the middle to score DJ LeMahieu and Ford.

Ford hit a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 8-2 and Romine added his homer in the ninth. Ford added a two-run double to give the Yankees a 14-3 lead.

LeMahieu had three hits to raise his season total to 197 and had a bases-clearing double in the seventh to push New York's lead to 11-2.

Danny Santana hit a two-run homer off Paxton and Willie Calhoun had an RBI single in the eighth for Texas (76-84).

Scott Heineman hit a solo homer, Jose Trevino had an RBI double and Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Chance Adams, but Texas began its final series at Globe Life Park before moving into a domed stadium next season by losing for the 10th time in 12 games.

After Paxton exited, the Yankees used eight relievers to get through the game. Stephen Tarpley (1-0) pitched a scoreless third for the win and Nestor Cortes Jr. finished up.

Palumbo allowed three runs on five hits in three-plus innings. He struck out seven and walked one.
