Manny Machado, Matt Kemp and Austin Barnes hit home runs and Hyun-Jin Ryu dominated for six innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers reduced their magic number for winning the National League West to six with a 14-0 victory Sunday over the visiting San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers remained 1 1/2 games ahead of the Colorado Rockies in the NL West with six games remaining, all on the road at Arizona and San Francisco.
Ryu (6-3) enhanced his chances of starting in potential postseason games by giving up just four hits in his scoreless outing. He struck out eight without issuing a walk.
The left-hander has not given up a run over his last two starts (13 innings). He also had three hits at the plate, all singles, for his second career three-hit game.
Padres rookie starter Joey Lucchesi (8-9) lasted just 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The outing ended Lucchesi's run of five consecutive starts with at least five innings, and it was his shortest outing since he lasted just 1 2/3 innings on June 20 against the Oakland Athletics.
Machado went deep to lead off the second inning, hitting a home run for the second consecutive game. He now has four home runs in 12 career games against the Padres, with 37 home runs on the season and 13 since joining the Dodgers on July 20.
Kemp, who turned 34 on Sunday, hit his 21st home run and second in his past three games. It was the third time in his career that Kemp has homered on his birthday. He finished with three hits.
Barnes' two-run home run was part of a six-run fourth inning that gave the Dodgers a comfortable 8-0 lead. Machado had an RBI single in the fourth, and Kemp added a two-run single in the inning.
Max Muncy drove in four runs, on a pair of two-run singles, all after entering the game as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning.
The Dodgers finished the regular season with a 44-37 record at home. They were 14-5 against the Padres this season, including a victory in seven of their last eight games against their division rival.
The Padres lost for the sixth time in their past nine games and went 2-7 at Dodger Stadium. At 62-94, the Padres need one more victory over the final week of play to avoid a 100-loss season.
