Brewers 9, Nationals 2: Scooter Gennett belted a grand slam and drove in a career-high five runs while Khris Davis added a solo shot among his three RBIs as host Milwaukee salvaged the finale of the three-game series between first-place clubs.

Marco Estrada (7-4) yielded two runs, two hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings to win his second straight start as the National League Central-leading Brewers rebounded from Tuesday's 5-hour, 22-minute marathon - a 4-2 loss in 16 frames. Carlos Gomez snapped an 0-for-13 slide with three hits and an RBI.

Stephen Strasburg (6-6) fell to 1-5 on the road after matching a career high by yielding seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. Ian Desmond recorded both Washington hits and drove in a run while Nate McLouth added an RBI for the NL East-leading Nationals, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Milwaukee loaded the bases with one out in the second before Gennett crushed a 2-1 offering out to right-center with two outs to give the Brewers a 4-1 lead. After Desmond's two-out RBI double in the fourth made it 4-2, Davis belted the first pitch he saw in the bottom half over the wall in left-center for his team-leading 14th homer.

Milwaukee extended its lead to 7-2 in the fifth when Gomez tripled with two out, and after Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds walked, Davis delivered a two-run single to chase Strasburg. Gennett added to his most productive game with an RBI single in the sixth and scored on Gomez's infield hit to make it 9-2.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers have not been swept in their last 34 series and along with the Los Angeles Dodgers are the only teams in the majors not to get swept in 2014. ... Washington fell to 14-8 since LF Ryan Zimmerman returned from disabled list. ... SS Desmond confronted Gomez - who reached after getting hit by a pitch - following a hard slide into 2B Kevin Frandsen during a double play to end the eighth. The benches briefly emptied, but nothing materialized.
