Dodgers 7, Marlins 1: Andre Ethier had four hits and three runs scored and left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings to help host Los Angeles end an eight-game losing streak.
Skip Schumaker added two hits and three RBIs and Dee Gordon hit a rare home run as the Dodgers avoided their longest losing streak since 1992. Ryu (4-2) allowed five hits before departing after surrendering a leadoff homer to Miguel Olivo in the seventh, followed by a two-out pinch-hit single by Chris Coghlan.
Miami starter Kevin Slowey (1-3) continued to suffer from a lack of run support. He threw a season-low 4 2/3 innings, though, allowing five runs and 11 hits - the most by a Marlins starter this season - without striking out a batter. In seven of Slowey’s eight starts this season, the Marlins have combined for eight runs.
After the Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the second on a broken-bat RBI single by Schumaker, Gordon opened the third with a home run just over the wall in right, his second in 150 career games. The Dodgers added three more hits and two walks in the inning, but only plated one additional run after runners were thrown out at second and third.
The Dodgers padded their lead with two runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. Juan Uribe made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and 6-1 with an RBI single in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Heading into the game, the Marlins’ bullpen had posted a 2.38 ERA since April 24, the fifth-lowest mark in the majors over that span. Their relievers allowed one earned run in 3 1/3 innings Saturday. … Marlins 3B and No. 3 hitter Placido Polanco opened the fourth inning with a double, his first extra-base hit since April 20. … The Dodgers swung and missed three times on 102 pitches from Slowey.
