Pirates 5, Reds 3: Pedro Alvarez homered and drove in all five of his team's runs as Pittsburgh split a four-game series in Cincinnati.
Alvarez singled in a run in the third inning, homered off Reds starter Homer Bailey to lead off the sixth to make it 2-2 and snapped the tie with a three-run double off reliever Tony Cingrani into the right-field corner in the seventh.
Reliever Bryan Morris (4-2) got the win after giving up one run in two innings of relief and started the seventh-inning rally with a single for his first career hit. Tony Watson tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his second save, a day after closer Jason Grilli suffered his first blown save in 26 chances.
Bailey allowed two runs in six innings and struck out eight before Alfredo Simon (5-3) took over and loaded the bases for Cingrani. Brandon Cumpton made his second career start for Pittsburgh and gave up two runs (one earned) in five frames.
Joey Votto gave the Reds a first-inning lead with an RBI single and Jay Bruce put the hosts up 2-1 in the fourth with his fifth home run in seven games.
