Mariners 5, Twins 3: Hisashi Iwakuma pitched seven solid innings and John Jaso and Miguel Olivo both hit homers as host Seattle won its third straight game.
Iwakuma (4-3) followed up Felix Hernandez’s perfect game by retiring the first 12 Minnesota batters before Justin Morneau led off the fifth with a double. Iwakuma allowed one unearned run and four hits and struck out six while winning for the third time in four starts.
Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 19 opportunities.
Jaso hit a two-run homer in the first off Twins starter Nick Blackburn (4-9), who lost his fifth straight decision. Olivo went deep in the second to give the Mariners a 3-0 edge.
Minnesota got on the board in the fifth when Morneau scored on a one-out single by Matt Carson, who was playing in his first major-league game since 2010.
Seattle made it 4-1 in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Trayvon Robinson and Eric Thames. Dustin Ackley singled in Thames to give the Mariners a four-run advantage.
Joe Mauer and Josh Willingham hit back-to-back homers with two outs in the eighth for the Twins, who lost their third straight game.
Blackburn allowed five runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Seattle has won 10 of its last 11 home games. … Minnesota OFs Denard Span (shoulder) and Ben Revere (ankle) both missed Friday’s game. … The Mariners activated LHP Charlie Furbush (triceps) from the disabled list and optioned RHP Shawn Kelley to Triple-A Tacoma. … Twins SS Pedro Florimon went hitless in three at-bats in his first major-league appearance of 2012. He played in four games for Minnesota last season.
