Phillies 7, Padres 3: Carlos Ruiz and John Mayberry Jr. belted two-run homers and drove in three runs apiece and Vance Worley struck out nine in six innings as host Philadelphia snapped a three-game losing skid.
After Yonder Alonso and Jesus Guzman had RBI singles to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, Ruiz answered with an opposite-field shot off Clayton Richard (1-5) in the bottom half of the frame.
Rookie Freddy Galvis ripped an RBI double and Ruiz and Mayberry added run-scoring singles in the seventh inning for the Phillies, who defeated San Diego for the third time in five outings.
Worley (3-2) allowed three runs on six hits to defeat the Padres for the second time this season. He struck out a career-high 11 in seven innings in a 2-0 win on April 19.
The much-maligned Phillies' bullpen fared well as Antonio Bastardo tossed two scoreless innings and Chad Qualls struck out a pair in the ninth.
Richard yielded five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to fall to 0-3 in his career versus the Phillies.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Scott Podsednik from the Phillies for cash considerations. He is expected to go to Triple-A Pawtucket. ... Ruiz's homer was his sixth of the season. He had failed to record more than three before the end of May in his career. ... Philadelphia recalled left-handed relievers Jake Diekman and Raul Valdes and utility infielder Hector Luna from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to the contest. Luna was set to enter the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, but he was removed by manager Charlie Manuel after San Diego elected to make a pitching change.
