Troy Tulowitzki homered for the third straight game and Mark Ellis doubled three times as the host Colorado Rockies outslugged the Kansas City Royals 9-6 on Saturday.
Todd Helton chipped in two hits and two RBIs, and Chris Iannetta added three hits for the Rockies, who have started July with a pair of wins after dropping five of six to close June.
Kyle Davies (1-7) made his return after a month and a half on the disabled list and looked rusty from the beginning when he surrendered an RBI single to Helton in the first and got knocked around for six runs - three earned - in the second.
Ellis, who was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Athletics on Thursday mainly for his defensive prowess, had a two-run double in the second. He is 6-for-10 with four runs scored and five RBIs in two games for Colorado.
Greg Reynolds (3-0), who allowed five runs in five innings, was called up to start for the Rockies when Jhoulys Chacin was pushed back because of tightness in his right forearm.
Huston Street got the final out for his 24th save.
Alex Gordon had four hits, including a homer, and Wilson Betemit also homered for Kansas City, which has dropped five straight.
