Javier Vazquez pitched six stellar innings and Donnie Murphy capped a four-run fifth inning with a two-run double as the Florida Marlins completed a sweep of their three-game series against the host Pittsburgh Pirates with a 4-1 triumph Sunday.
Vazquez (10-11) allowed just three hits and walked two while striking out seven en route to his third straight win. The veteran, who has yielded one run over 20 innings during the streak, reached double digits in victories for the 12th consecutive season.
Leo Nunez worked a perfect ninth for his 34th save in 40 opportunities.
Vazquez began the rally in the fifth with a leadoff walk and scored on Greg Dobbs' two-out double. Gaby Sanchez followed with an RBI single and Murphy delivered his double two batters later to open a 4-0 lead for Florida, which managed only five hits.
James McDonald (9-8) lasted just 4 2/3 innings for Pittsburgh as he surrendered four runs on five hits and four walks.
Jason Jaramillo had two hits and an RBI for the Pirates, who honored the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a pregame ceremony on the 10-year anniversary of the disastrous events.
