Christian Dvorak and Nick Schmaltz ignited a three-goal second period as the Arizona Coyotes blew past the host Winnipeg Jets 4-2 on Tuesday.

Dvorak recorded his sixth career two-goal game, and Schmaltz added a goal as the Arizona linemates broke a 1-1 tie by potting all of their tallies in the second.

Schmaltz contributed two assists for a three-point game. Conor Garland notched a goal for the Coyotes, Oliver Ekman-Larsson chipped in two helpers, and Darcy Kuemper recorded 38 saves on 40 shots to improve to 2-2-0.

The Coyotes, who improved to 2-0-1 in the past three games, netted goals on both of their power plays after entering the game 0-for-9 on the season.

Mark Scheifele posted a goal and an assist, Kyle Connor scored, and Josh Morrissey added two assists for the Jets.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 of 35 shots for the Jets, who have lost the first two games of their five-game homestand.

Winnipeg fourth-line center David Gustafsson, 19, made his NHL debut and logged 5:59 of ice time.

On the Jets' first power play, sniper Patrik Laine ripped a one-timer off the right post. Scheifele collected the rebound and slipped the puck past Kuemper for his fourth goal at 7:35.

It was Winnipeg's third straight game with a power-play goal, and Morrissey got the secondary assist, marking his fourth straight game with a point.

Arizona got back in it and regained some of the momentum after Ekman-Larsson took a long shot from the point. Skating out front of Hellebuyck, Garland chipped in the blast for his third goal in the opening period's final seconds.

The Coyotes cashed in on their first two man advantages in the second period to take full control of the game.

Dvorak popped a puck in front of Hellebuyck, and Morrissey inadvertently put it past his goalie while trying to clear it at 5:11 for Dvorak's first goal.

Arizona went right back on the power play 14 seconds later on a Scheifele slash, and Schmaltz skated in and zipped in his third goal at 7:21 for a 3-1 lead.

Dvorak added a second marker when he patiently roofed a shot to beat Hellebuyck glove side to end a two-on-one at 17:47 of the second to make it 4-1.

Garland was called for a double minor for high sticking 3:45 into the third, and Connor scored his third goal of the season at 4:58 to trim the deficit to 4-2.

The Coyotes killed off a power play later in the third, and then held off Winnipeg's extra-attacker push in the final minutes for the win.
