SUNRISE, Fla. -- A half-dozen times this season -- all in a row -- the San Jose Sharks had goals wiped out by video review.
But on Friday night, the good fortune was on San Jose's side as Chris Tierney scored a tiebreaking goal with 12:47 left in the third period in a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers at the BB&T Center.
"It was six straight (disallowed goals), and it felt like it was going to be seven," said Sharks captain Joe Pavelski, who scored San Jose's first goal. "It was nice to see (goals) not overturned."
Tierney scored the game-winner on a sharp-angle rebound off his backhand for his seventh goal of the season. His shot crossed the goal line by mere inches, and video review confirmed that as fact.
"I didn't really see it fully ... but I thought I saw something cross the line," Tierney said. "I'm glad we have instant replay to check it out. It's been tough seeing goals go in and get called back."
Backup Sharks goalie Aaron Dell made 39 saves for his second straight win this week. He is 15-9-2 in his two years in the NHL, and this was the 17th time this season the Sharks allowed two goals or less.
"He is diving across, using his body, blocking, spinning around, doing whatever he can to keep the puck out," Tierney said. "We have a lot of confidence in him."
The Sharks (14-8-2) are 4-0-1 in their past five games, four of which were on the road. Overall this season, the Sharks are 7-2-1 on the road.
Florida (10-13-2) had its two-game win streak snapped. The Panthers, who are just 5-5-2 at home this season, got 30 saves from Roberto Luongo.
Bob Boughner's Florida's rookie head coach, couldn't find the answer to beating San Jose, where he served as an assistant the past two years.
Florida opened the scoring with 1:49 left in the first period, pressuring Dell for 11 seconds following a face-off win by center Derek MacKenzie. Dell made at least two stops before Colton Sceviour shoved in a rebound.
"We started pretty well," Panthers center Aleksander Barkov said. "Our first period was pretty good. Then they took over."
Indeed, San Jose tied the score with 8:40 left in the second period. Joe Thornton's pass from behind the net caromed off Barkov's skate, and Pavelski picked up a loose puck and tapped it in from the doorstep.
The goal was challenged by Florida, which claimed goaltender interference, but the call on the ice was upheld.
"That shouldn't have been a goal," Luongo said. "You can tell on the replay that my skate is trying to get toward the post and is impeded by his skate. It can't get any more clear than that."
It was career goal No. 300 for Pavelski, who admitted he did brush up against Luongo.
"I had the puck -- that's the biggest thing that saved it," Pavelski said. "There definitely was a little contact."
The Sharks took a 2-1 lead on Tierney's goal. Melker Karlsson and Brent Burns earned assists, and Luongo felt it was bad fortune.
"I made the save, and the guy (Tierney) happened to be by the net and banked it off of me," Luongo said. "It was a little bad luck on that one."
San Jose did not have a power play and killed off its only two penalties.
Boughner lamented the missed chances on his team's two power plays, which created seven shots on goal.
"We hit the post on our power play in the second period," Boughner said. "If that goes in, it's a 2-0 game, and it's different."
