Wild 1, Jets 0: Charlie Coyle scored the lone goal and Ilya Bryzgalov posted his second straight shutout as visiting Minnesota moved closer to clinching a postseason berth.
Zach Parise and captain Mikko Koivu each recorded an assist while Bryzgalov stopped 24 shots for the Wild, who moved seven points ahead of Dallas for the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Minnesota needs either one point earned or one failed to be earned by Phoenix to secure a trip to the playoffs.
Michael Hutchinson made 16 saves in his NHL debut for the Jets, who were shut out for the third time this season. Winnipeg fell to 16-12-5 since Paul Maurice took over as coach on Jan. 12.
After a scoreless first period, Minnesota got on the board just as Winnipeg defenseman Mark Stuart's interference penalty expired early in the second. Parise received a pass from Koivu below the right faceoff circle and quickly dished the puck to Coyle, who fired it past Hutchinson from the inner edge of the circle for his 12th goal.
It proved to be all the offensive support needed by Bryzgalov, who made half of his total saves in the third period en route to his 34th career blanking. The veteran netminder, who also stymied Pittsburgh on Saturday, has posted four shutouts this season and three in nine starts for the Wild.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jets captain Andrew Ladd was scratched with an undisclosed injury while D Dustin Byfuglien is done for the season due to a torn muscle. ... Winnipeg LW Evander Kane was back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch on Saturday in Toronto. ... Bryzgalov improved to 6-0-3 since being acquired from Edmonton prior to the trade deadline.
