Oilers 5, Predators 1: Jordan Eberle scored twice in an 83-second span in the third period and also had an assist as host Edmonton completed its first three-game regular-season sweep of Nashville.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tallied on the power play to snap a 15-game goalless drought and added two assists. Sam Gagner and Taylor Hall also scored and Viktor Fasth turned aside 28 shots as the Oilers improved to 10-4-3 in their last 17 games and outscored the Predators by a 13-2 margin this season.
Pekka Rinne yielded five goals on 26 shots before being relieved by Carter Hutton (four saves) in the third period. Gabriel Bourque scored for the first time since Dec. 21 for the Predators, who saw their three-game road winning streak come to an end.
With Edmonton nursing a 3-1 lead, Eberle put the game away with a dominating performance in the third. The Oilers benefited from crisp puck movement before Eberle backhanded a shot from deep in the left circle off the glove of Rinne and into the net at 8:38. Eberle added his 23rd goal from nearly the same spot to chase the netminder from the contest.
After Gagner shoveled home a rebound to open the scoring late in the first period, Nugent-Hopkins doubled the advantage at 8:18 of the second with his first goal since he last faced Nashville on Jan. 26. The 2011 top overall pick converted a brilliant cross-slot feed from Eberle by burying a shot from deep in the right circle.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall has enjoyed facing the Predators in his career, recording five goals and seven assists in 11 meetings. ... Edmonton RW Nail Yakupov was scratched due to an ankle injury. ... Bourque cleaned up a rebound to trim the Oilers' deficit to 3-1 with 1:21 left in the second period.
