Newly signed veteran John Carney kicked three field goals - including the go-ahead 25-yarder with 3:55 left in the fourth quarter - to give the New Orleans Saints a 16-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Signed this week after Garrett Hartley missed a 29-yard field goal in last week's 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Carney also booted a pair of 32-yard kicks to help the Saints (3-1) rally from a 14-10 second-half deficit.
The Panthers (0-4) drove to New Orleans' 36-yard line, but Malcolm Jenkins sacked Jimmy Clausen on third down to take Carolina out of field goal range. The rookie quarterback then misfired on fourth down.
Drew Brees threw for 275 yards and a touchdown on 33-of-48 passing, connecting with Lance Moore on a 4-yard score in the second quarter.
Chris Ivory rushed for 67 yards on 12 carries and Ladell Betts added 47 yards on 13 carries for the Saints, who were without starting running back Pierre Thomas.
Clausen threw his first NFL touchdown pass, a 55-yard strike to running back Jonathan Stewart.
DeAngelo Williams rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries for the Panthers.
