Sophomore Terrance Williams II scored a career-high 22 points, senior Brandon Johns Jr. tied a career best with 20 and Michigan hit a season-high 15 3-pointers in a 102-67 win at Nebraska on Tuesday in Lincoln, Neb.
Williams was 9 of 12 from the field and 3 of 3 from 3-point range while Johns, who hadn't scored more than seven in a game this season, was 6 of 9 from the field and 2 of 3 from 3-point range. Both took advantage of the absence of Michigan freshman forward Moussa Diabate, who did not make the trip due to a non-COVID illness.
Michigan (6-3, 1-0 Big Ten) shot 51.3 percent from the field and was 15 of 32 (46.9 percent) from deep. The Wolverines led 51-32 at the half thanks to nine 3-pointers from six different players, and a seventh, Eli Brooks, drained a pair from outside during a personal 8-2 run to put the Wolverines up 67-47 with 13:06 remaining.
Brooks finished with 10 points, one of five Wolverines in double figures along with Williams, Johns, Caleb Houstan (16) and Hunter Dickinson (15). All told, eight Michigan players hit 3-pointers.
Nebraska (5-5, 0-2) lost its third straight despite 31 points and eight rebounds from Alonzo Verge Jr., who shot 12 of 21 from the field. The rest of the Cornhuskers were 11 of 51 (21.6 percent), with freshman Bryce McGowens, the team's leading scorer, managing only eight points on 2-of-9 shooting.
The Cornhuskers were 5 of 35 (14.3 percent) from 3-point range and only had six assists, with Verge responsible for three of those. Keisei Tominaga scored 11 points for Nebraska, but he hit just 4 of 14 field-goal attempts.
Michigan will play its Big Ten home opener on Saturday against unbeaten Minnesota. Nebraska takes on No. 18 Auburn on Saturday in Atlanta as part of the Holiday Hoopsgiving quadrupleheader.
