Jordan Bowden scored 18 points and Lamonte Turner added 16 as Tennessee upended No. 20 Washington 75-62 on Saturday in the James Naismith Classic in Toronto.

Yves Pons added 15 points and John Fulkerson scored 14 as the Volunteers (3-0) won the first matchup between the schools.

Nahziah Carter scored 18 points and Jaden McDaniels added 15 as the Huskies (2-1) fell to 1-1 against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season after defeating then-No. 16 Baylor in their season opener on Nov. 8.

The Volunteers trailed briefly at the outset before a 9-0 run in the opening five minutes led to an early 14-5 lead. Tennessee led 40-28 at halftime by shooting 55.6 percent (15 of 27) from the field and 62.5 percent (5 of 8) from 3-point range.

The Volunteers finished at 47.2 percent from the field and 46.2 percent (6 of 13) from 3-point range, while holding Washington to 40.0 percent overall.

After rallying from seven points at halftime to defeat Baylor, Washington pulled to within seven points twice in the second half against the Volunteers, the latest at 55-48 with 8:39 remaining. But the Huskies were unable to get any closer.

Tennessee showed a crisp-passing, efficient half-court offense early, making 15-first half baskets on 15 assists. The Volunteers finished with 19 assists, eight from Turner. Washington had 15 assists.

Isaiah Stewart scored 14 points and Quade Green had 10 for Washington, which had just three players score points in the first half, led by Carter's 12.

Carter finished the game with 12 rebounds as the Huskies had a 42-32 advantage on the boards.

Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes earned a victory over Washington for the first time in his coaching career. He now has defeated every Pac-12 school in his career and is five victories away from 700.

Washington played its only scheduled game in the Eastern Time zone. The Huskies have already have played at Alaska (vs. Baylor) and have a trip to Hawaii scheduled in December.
