Guards J.J. Frazier and Kenny Gaines had big nights, leading Georgia past Tennessee 81-72 on Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.
Frazier had 28 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Gaines finished with 23 points, including six 3-pointers, to help Georgia overcome a halftime deficit and 20 turnovers.
The Bulldogs made 12 3-pointers to bounce back from a tough loss at Mississippi on Saturday.
After a sloppy first half that saw Georgia turn the ball over 16 times, the Bulldogs used an 18-4 run early in the second half to take control. They hit five 3-pointers in the first eight minutes of the second half, including a deep ball by Gaines that put Georgia (9-5, 2-2 SEC) ahead 52-47 with 12 minutes to play.
Guards Kevin Punter and Detrick Mostella each scored 16 points for Tennessee (8-8, 1-3), which has lost three of four.
Mostella scored 11 points in the first half, including a late 3-pointer that sent the Volunteers into halftime with a 35-28 lead. Tennessee had nine steals in the first half.
Georgia outrebounded Tennessee 38-27 and outscored the Vols 12-0 on second-chance points.
