Ian Hummer hit a jumper in the final seconds and finished with 21 points as visiting Princeton squeezed past in-state rival Rutgers, 59-57, on Wednesday.
Douglas Davis added 16 points and Denton Koon scored 10 for the Tigers (4-5), who have won two straight in the series after losing 10 of the previous 11 matchups. The series dates back to 1917.
The Scarlet Knights trailed, 49-34, with 6:52 left before storming back. Eli Carter tied it, 52-52, on a layup with 2:36 left and Dane Miller gave Rutgers the lead, 54-53, when he connected on a pair of free throws with 1:38 to play.
It went back and forth until the final 18 seconds, when Carter split a pair of free throws to tie it 57-57. Princeton called timeout and came up with the play, letting Hummer sink the final shot to secure a third consecutive victory.
The Tigers dominated with a slow pace until the final six minutes, when Rutgers opened up offensively and finished with a flurry.
Carter led the way with 17 points for the Scarlet Knights (4-5), who have dropped two straight and four of five.
