Senior Chris Johnson scored 20 points and Dayton shot 61 percent from the field to upset No. 15-ranked Alabama 74-62 on Wednesday.
Johnson, a senior forward, made 8 of 9 from the field, including three 3-pointers, to set the pace Dayton, which made 28 of 46. Reserve Josh Parker added 17 points, including three treys, Kevin Dillard scored 14 and had eight rebounds, and Josh Benson added 11 points.
Alabama (7-2) got 18 points from Tony Mitchell, 13 from Trevor Releford and 12 from JaMychal Green. And though the Tide made 49 percent from the field, they were no match for the hot-shooting Flyers.
Dayton (6-3) led 38-27 at halftime and extended its lead to 17 with 18:22 remaining. Alabama got as close as five points with 8:26 remaining, but an 8-2 run that included a pair of 3-pointers from Dillard enabled the Flyers to pull away.
