Texas, facing an 11-point deficit when the lights went out late in the first half at the Los Angeles Sports Arena Saturday, came out of the 13-minute delay to blow past UCLA for a 69-59 win.
The Longhorns rode the hot shooting of guard J’Covan Brown, whose 3-pointer at 17:09 left evened the score. Myck Kabongo gave the Longhorns the lead on a layup, followed it up with a steal and scored again when his shot was goaltended.
Brown finished with 22 points and Kabongo added 13, 11 coming in the second half, in addition to eight assists.
The Bruins got 21 points from guard Lazeric Jones, but only a combined six from front line stars Josh Brown and Reeves Nelson.
With the lights still not fully powered up, the Longhorns seemed to catch a second wind once play resumed. Texas scored the final five points of the half to get within six at halftime at 34-28 on a Clint Chapman dunk and a Brown 3-pointer.
