Kyle Kuric scored 12 points and Gorgui Dieng collected 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks as No. 7 Louisville put on a defensive clinic in a 54-27 victory over visiting Arkansas State on Tuesday as part of the Global Sports Invitational.
Russ Smith buried three 3-pointers for the Cardinals (4-0), who forced 22 turnovers in holding their fourth straight opponent under 40 percent from the field. It was the third time a Louisville opponent could not break 30 percent against the full-court press.
Without point guard Peyton Siva for a second consecutive game due to a sprained ankle, the Cardinals were not their sharpest offensively, shooting 37 percent, but made up for it by harassing the Red Wolves. Louisville scored 17 points off turnovers and locked down the perimeter, forcing Arkansas State to go 1 of 10 from beyond the arc.
The Cardinals took a 22-12 lead into the break and limited the Red Wolves to two field goals in the first 10:20 of the second half to turn it into a rout. Dieng and Elisha Justice hit back-to-back layups to give Louisville its biggest lead, 47-19, with 5:47 left.
Marcus Hooten scored seven points to lead Arkansas State (1-4), which finished 10 of 41 from the field (24 percent).
