MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Reserve point guard Beno Udrih scored a playoff career-high 20 points and Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol posted double-doubles as the Memphis Grizzlies rolled over the Portland Trail Blazers 100-86 Sunday night at FedExForum to take a 1-0 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.
Randolph finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Gasol scored 15 points with 11 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. The Grizzlies got 16 points from point guard Mike Conley and forward Jeff Green had 11 points and six rebounds. Udrih also chipped in seven rebounds and seven assists.
Forward LaMarcus Aldridge scored a game-high 32 points for the Trail Blazers, going 13-for-34 from the floor. Aldridge also pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked four shots. Forward Nicolas Batum scored 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists. Point guard Damian Lillard finished with 14 points on 5-for-21 shooting, and had eight rebounds.
Up by 19 points at halftime, the Grizzlies stretched the lead to 29 points late in the third quarter and were ahead 86-62 going into the fourth quarter. Portland never drew closer than 14 points.
In last year’s NBA playoffs, the Blazers went into Houston and won the first two games of that first-round series and then upset the Rocket in six games. But there would be no surprising the Grizzlies in Game 1.
The Grizzlies held Portland to 33.7 percent shooting (32-for-95). The Blazers shot just 30.8 percent from 3-point range (8-for-26), while Memphis shot 44.3 percent (39-for-88) and won points in the paint 52 to 38.
Portland never led and was down 58-39 at halftime. Udrih needed just eight minutes in the first half to score 13 points, grab three rebounds and hand out three assists. Gasol had 11 first-half points and Lee and Conley each had nine.
The Trail Blazers misfired on eight of nine 3-point attempts in the first half and shot 32 percent overall. Aldridge led all scorers with 16 points through the first two quarters and was 7-for-18 from the floor.
NOTES: Portland G Arron Afflalo sat out Game 1 of this first-round playoff series with a shoulder sprain. Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts did say that Afflalo "gets better every day." Afflalo missed the last three games of the regular season. For the season, he averaged 13.3 points per game. ... Memphis coach Dave Joerger called PG Mike Conley (right foot sprain) and swingman Tony Allen (hamstring strain) "game-time decisions," but both players wound up playing in Game 1. ... The Grizzlies are one of just two Western Conference teams to make the playoffs each of the last five seasons. The other is the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs. ... Memphis swept Portland (4-0) during the regular season. ... This is Portland's 31st playoff appearance in franchise history.
