Pelicans 102, Kings 88: Tyreke Evans recorded 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting and dished out 10 assists as New Orleans pulled away from visiting Sacramento to snap a four-game losing streak.
Anthony Davis contributed 24 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots for the Pelicans, who moved within three games of Oklahoma City for eighth place in the Western Conference. Quincy Pondexter made four 3-pointers en route to 16 points and Norris Cole scored 12 off the bench for New Orleans.
DeMarcus Cousins matched his season high with 39 points to go along with 20 rebounds for the Kings, who saw their four-game win streak come to an end. Rudy Gay chipped in with 18 points and Omri Casspi scored 10 for Sacramento, which made only 11 of 18 free throws.
Pondexter and Evans drained 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to give the Pelicans a 10-point bulge with 2:01 left in the first half and settled for a 46-42 lead at intermission. The Kings built a five-point lead in the third quarter before Davis scored eight as New Orleans ran off 22 of the next 28 for a 74-63 advantage.
Sacramento scored the next five after Andre Miller’s basket to open the fourth quarter, but Cole answered with a 3-pointer and another jumper to push the lead back to 11. Nik Stauskas scored for the Kings before Toney Douglas scored five as the Pelicans ran off the next nine for an 88-70 advantage and held off a mild rally.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New Orleans C Omer Asik grabbed 12 rebounds as the Pelicans finished with a 47-37 edge on the boards. … Cousins is averaging 29 points and 13.8 rebounds over the last four games. … New Orleans F Ryan Anderson missed his 17th straight game with a knee injury, but could return within a week.
