Pacers 95, Wizards 92: Paul George scored 28 of his postseason career-high 39 points in the second half and grabbed 12 rebounds as visiting Indiana grabbed a 3-1 lead over Washington in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Roy Hibbert added 17 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks for the Pacers, who can close out the series at home in Game 5 on Tuesday. George Hill scored 15 points and David West added 14 points and eight assists for Indiana.
Bradley Beal scored 20 points to lead the Wizards, who missed their final six field-goal attempts and turned the ball over with a chance to tie and under six seconds left. Trevor Ariza collected 16 points and nine rebounds and John Wall had 12 points and seven assists for Washington.
George converted a three-point play to tie it at 74 with 10:30 left but the Wizards responded with an 11-2 run to jump back out before George hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tighten things up again. George’s free throws with 2:24 remaining gave the Pacers their first lead since the end of the first quarter at 90-89, and Hibbert’s hook shot with 1:02 to play made it a 94-91 lead as Washington failed to rally.
The Wizards began the second quarter with a 12-0 burst and outscored Indiana 29-11 in the period to take a 55-38 lead into the break. Washington was up by as much as 19 early in the third and held a 68-51 advantage midway through the quarter before the Pacers fought back, closing the stanza with a 20-4 spurt behind three 3-pointers from George to draw within 72-71 heading to the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington has not won at home in the conference semifinals since the Bullets beat Atlanta on Apr. 29, 1979. … The Pacers overcame 20 turnovers - six by G Lance Stephenson. … George went 7-of-10 from 3-point range - the makes tied a franchise postseason record - while the Wizards hit 5-of-15 from beyond the arc as a team.
