Bobcats 91, Magic 80: Al Jefferson recorded 29 points and 16 rebounds as Charlotte took a big lead and held off a rally from visiting Orlando to move closer to clinching a playoff spot.
Kemba Walker registered his second career triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Bobcats won their third straight to reach the .500 mark (38-38) and remain two games behind Washington for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Anthony Tolliver had 13 points and Gary Neal added 12 for Charlotte.
Rookie Victor Oladipo led the way with 21 points for the Magic, who have lost three straight overall and dropped to 4-35 on the road this season. Tobias Harris chipped in with 15 points and Jameer Nelson added 11 points and seven assists for Orlando, which shot only 35.6 percent from the field.
Orlando led by a point early in the second quarter before Tolliver and Walker each hit 3-pointers during an 7-0 burst to give Charlotte the lead for good. The Magic battled back within three, but the Bobcats scored 21 of the final 28 points – 11 by Jefferson – to take a 53-36 lead at intermission.
Jefferson’s short jumper with a little over five minutes left in the third quarter gave the Bobcats a 21-point lead before Orlando closed within 72-60 going into the final 12 minutes. The Magic pulled within seven on a 3-pointer by Oladipo early in the fourth, but Neal’s three-point play ignited a 10-3 run that gave Charlotte the cushion it needed.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Orlando C Nikola Vucevic, averaging 14.2 points and 11 rebounds, sat out the game due to a sore left Achilles' tendon. … The Bobcats had 14 fast-break points to four for Orlando. … Charlotte F Josh McRoberts, who had a career-high 24 points in the overtime loss at Orlando on March 28, missed his second consecutive game with a left ankle injury.
