Raptors 104, Nets 103: Patrick Patterson hit the go-ahead jumper with six seconds remaining as Toronto stunned host Brooklyn.
After stealing the ball on the inbounds, Patterson took a Kyle Lowry pass and let his defender step past him before knocking down a shot from just outside the paint. Paul Pierce had a chance to win it for the Nets but his long 3-pointer at the buzzer hit the front of the rim as Brooklyn fell 2 1/2 games behind Toronto's Atlantic Division lead.
Lowry had a team-high 31 points to go along with seven assists and five steals as Toronto prevailed without shooting guard DeMar DeRozan (sprained left foot). Jonas Valanciunas added 20 points and 13 rebounds and Patterson had 15 in a reserve role, while Pierce finished with a season-best 33 points for the Nets.
Lowry made his first five shots - including a pair of 3-pointers - but the Nets responded with a quarter-closing 13-2 run fueled by seven points from Deron Williams to seize a 26-25 advantage after one. The teams traded leads in a back-and-forth second quarter that ended with a Lowry buzzer-beater from well behind half-court that gave Toronto a 57-56 lead entering the break.
The Nets erased a seven-point hole with nine straight just before the midway point of the third quarter, but Patterson knocked down consecutive mid-range jumpers in the final minute to put the Raptors in front 82-81 heading into the fourth. Lowry hit an acrobatic floater in the lane as part of a three-point play for his 30th point of the night, but the Nets chipped away before pulling ahead on Pierce's 3-pointer with 3:09 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pierce was 7-of-10 from 3-point range for the Nets, who fell for just the second time in the last 12 games. ... Steve Novak was given the starting assignment in place of DeRozan, his first since joining the Raptors in an offseason trade with the New York Knicks. Novak missed all five of his field-goal attempts, including four from beyond the arc. ... Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman attended the game.
